A Tech Job with a Business View

When Kenzie joined Keane 10 years ago, he knew he wanted a career in IT. What he didn’t know was in which industry he wanted to specialize. “I’ve spent about 8 of the last 10 years working for clients in the financial services industry.” And it has been a rewarding decade for Kenzie.

Not just monetarily; although, as Kenzie puts it, Keane’s benefits, salaries, and awards programs are among the best. The true reward, he says, is working with clients who aren’t afraid to take risks when it comes to innovative technology.

“That’s what makes it really cool to come to work,” says Kenzie. “My clients want to stay ahead of the curve all the time.”

Kenzie is a senior consultant in an IT architect role. “That means I focus on solving business problems using technology.” The ability to see the big picture is critical for architects today. Whether designing a simple application or the entire IT infrastructure for an enterprise, the architect has to plan how these systems will evolve and perform over time.

Huge Rewards

What’s the most rewarding part of the job? “Seeing the end result,” Kenzie affirms. “We just finished a project for our client [one of the world's largest financial services firms] who wanted to put ‘Google Suggest’–like functionality on their web pages.” This will assist the client in providing real-time statistics on the stock market to their users. The accuracy and speed of this application put them ahead of their competition. “No one else is doing it,” Kenzie adds. “Being able to keep our clients ahead of the pack is incredibly satisfying.”

A Global Team with a Single Goal

But what keeps Kenzie going day to day is hands-down the people at Keane. “You have folks from all over the world working here. It’s a great opportunity to learn from a diverse group of thinkers.”

Kenzie acknowledges that the positive attitude and exceptional communication skills of his peers has contributed to his own success. “When you have that kind of alignment between groups — both within Keane and with clients — you are able to deliver an extraordinary product.”

Advice for New Recruits

What advice does Kenzie offer to new recruits? “Frankly,” he says, “Keane has a lot to offer. But you are in control of your own career. All you need is motivation and ambition.”
