Keane innovates with Open2Test – Open Source Test Automation Framework
Boston, MA – September 21, 2009 - Keane, a U.S.-based IT services firm that helps clients realize the greatest value from their IT investments, today announced that it has been recognized as a leading innovator on the 2009 InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation’s most innovative users of business technology. Recognition comes to Keane for its ground-breaking work in the area of test automation within the open source community.
The 2009 InformationWeek 500 companies were revealed on September 14, 2009 at an awards ceremony held during the InformationWeek 500 Conference at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif.
“Test automation today is largely the same as it was 10 years ago,” says Marv Mouchawar, executive vice president of global practices and products at Keane. “Our experts at Keane created a solution to overcome the most difficult problem in developing a flexible, tool independent, platform independent, keyword-driven automation framework by delivering an open source solution. The goal of Open2Test is to raise the bar in the industry and set a new standard for test automation while allowing clients to focus on the important tasks such as writing automated test cases for their application under test. We are honored to be recognized by InformationWeek 500 for our open source innovation.”
The Open Source Test Automation Framework, http://www.open2test.org, is composed of a standard set of keywords that does not change, no matter what automation tool is used to automate testing. The framework also includes a driver script that interprets the keywords for a given tool. The driver script interprets the keywords and associated actions from the spreadsheet and then executes the instruction. This approach creates a tool-independent test script and leaves the knowledge of the test case in the spreadsheet. As organizations decide to change test automation tools, all that is needed is a new driver script infrastructure to interpret and execute keywords and test scripts, eliminating the need to rewrite test scripts.
“For over 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. “Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue, and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year’s winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation.”
